80's Foreign Films

Just a treat for all 80's Pinas readers and visitors!

We will be giving you the links to three 80's foreign movies that I myself enjoyed watching when I was a kid. I'm sure if you're a certified 80's kid you will feel the same way too!

I am certain that you are so into Lucas Films. I bet you've seen all the Star Wars movies. But do you still remember the Lucas Film about a Nelwyn and a lazy, handsome Daikini who were destined to save a princess? You've guessed it right! Willow, a 1987 Lucas Film starring Warwick Davis and Val Kilmer brought joy to all viewers who watched the film.

During the 80's a film that would offer to bring you to a whole new world is the most tempting thing. After watching films like Star Wars one would not forget the small, midget-like creatures that once appeared on one of the films. The Ewoks! Here is the first ewok movie entiled "Caravan of Courage" starring the very cute little Aubree Miller.

Lastly, one of my most favorite 80s' foreign films that really entertained me and played with my imagination, The Flight of the Navigator. I love Joey Cramer in this movie. He's just too cute! On top of that his house (with the beach front view) is way too awesome!

I hope you enjoy watching these movies! May they remind you of tons of fun and happy childhood memories! Enjoy! =)

"I'm going back to the Philippines", says Menudo

link: click 1, 2 to watch videos
thanks to afrmonline for the upload

For those who were old enough during the eighties I bet you'll not fail to recognize the boys in the picture. Yep, they are the 5 members of the Latin boy group Menudo. But then if you happen to be born years after, the name "Ricky Martin" will still ring a bell because I know you've gone loca when you heard that he wasn't livin' la vida "loco"!

During the 80's, they were the "IT" thing. Touring all over the world, screaming fans (girls and boys alike) can't get enough of these cute boys from Puerto Rico. They became household names and they became the ideal types of every girl during the 80's.

Whatever brand they endorsed sold well. One of which was Pepsi. The Menudo mania reached the Philippines as well. They made numerous tv commercials, held concerts and even sang songs about the Philippines.

In this particular Pepsi commercial of Menudo I noticed a very familiar face. Can you guess who he is? The boy on the right is no other than Maricel Soriano's baby brother, Mel Martinez. He was in the commercial with the Menudo boys! How thrilling was that?!

He even had a scene with Ricky Martin himself! Woot!!! I bet girls of the 80's we're so jealous of him for having this opportuniy.

What I love in this commercial is not just the 80's feel that it brings, but the Filipino flavor it has. They did not just use Menudo but they also added Filipinos in it.

They even showed our very own jeepney! Of course, it says "I love menudo".

The boys were shown riding the jeepney as they escaped numerous crazy fans chasing after them.

According to Wikipedia, a new and modern Menudo band was formed on 2007 but disbanded on 2009.

"In 2007 it was announced that Menudo would return after signing a multi-album contract with SonyBMG label Epic Records.

The recasting of the band was profiled in a MTV reality series entitled Making Menudo that had launched as a primetime series on October 25, 2007, but was later pushed to afternoons due to low ratings.[4] The series ended on November 20, 2007. The new members were José Bordonada Collazo, Chris Moy, Emmanuel Vélez Pagán, José Monti Montañez, and Carlos Olivero. The group disbanded in early 2009."

Well I guess we can only say that Menudo already is an icon and on that I think it is a given that they are all irreplaceable. Viva Menudo!

Superstar o Star for all Seasons?

link: click VIDEO to watch video clip
thanks to VSPRODUCTION for the upload

There are so many stars in the sky that twinkle but among these two shines the most--the one and only Superstar Ms. Nora Aunor and the Star for all Seasons Ms. Vilma Santos. So "THE" question is "Are you a Noranian or a Vilmanian?".

My mom is a self-confessed Noranian. Not that she hates Ate Vi but it's just that she likes Nora more. I remember she would religiously watch Superstar and also at times Ate Vi's variety show, Vilma. Coming home from work then cooking for dinner and afterwards cleaning the house, she would fall asleep while watching the show.

She would not only wake herself up to watch Superstar, she would make herself available during the broadcasts of various Philippine award's nights too. She would either be in the kitchen while watching or comfortably sitting on the sofa while munching something.

Through a wide variety of video collection of VSPRODUCTION, here are some memories from the 1987 PMPC Star Awards.

The hosts for the night were Mr. Eddie Gutierrez and Ms. Susan Roces.

The winner for the Best Male Musical Variety Show Host is Mr. Edu Manzano for The Not So Late Night With Edu Manzano, ABS-CBN.

Pops Fernandez for Martin & Pops Together as one of the nominees for the Best Female Musical Variety Show Host. Sitting next to her was Martin and sitting behind them was Ms. Connie Reyes.

Also another nominee, Ms. Alma Moreno for Loveliness. You can see the young and cute Mark Anthony Fernandez smiling when he heard her mom was nominated.

Of course, Ms. Vilma Santos for Vilma. She and Nora Aunor were sitting side by side during this award's night.

Ms. Nora Aunor for Superstar was also a nominee for the category. Her escort that night was Mr. Richard Merck.

The other nominess for the said category were Sharon Cuneta for The Sharon Cuneta Show, Kuh Ledesma for Kuh By Special Arrangement and Maricel Soriano for Maria, Maria.

And the winnners are, undeniably, The Superstar and The Star for All Seasons!

Would you say that this is a rare moment? I guess, if you are truly a fan of either one of them or both, you'd say that this is just how they are--genuine and humble people.

You can see no sign, not even a little, of qualms between the two. Actually I loved how Vilma poked Nora when she said that she (Nora) knew she wasn't a good host compared to others.

These two women are the epitome of fame & life. They maybe on different paths right now but I believe that they are both exemplary women who lived their lives to the best of their abilities and still are up until now.

Enjoy the video clip provided to us by VSPRODUCTION! =)

"Ngasab, ngasab, ngasab. Nguya, nguya, nguya," ani nito.

Panoorin natin!

Paalam, Kuya Ching!

link: click VIDEO to watch Kuya Ching with Kiko
thanks to beybies for the upload
